What is the role of the voice-over engineer? From Resnick Interactive

The Engineer is the person responsible for all the machines used in the recording session working
perfectly; their job is to capture all the vocal magic. While they could easily be regarded as ‘button
pushers’ or machine-focused; the fact is, that the Engineer put his/her heart and soul into each
project and their performance cannot be understated or overlooked. One could argue that they are
out TinMan – seemingly machine, but truly much heart.

Here’s a starter package for beginner voice over talent…

Here’s a custom starter package I put together for a beginner voice talent. I wanted to make sure they had some quality when just getting started but not pay for a great deal of things they didn’t need. I think it will sound nice..

Ok.. For a microphone that comes with a shock mount and other accessories.

All you will need is a boom or desktop mic stand. The one that sits on my desk is the desktop-boom version.

I would also order this wind-screen – dust guard..

The jump over to Guitar Center to order the audio interface. Sweetwater doesn’t seem to sell these right now.

This comes with audio editing software – thought it’s fairly intense to learn. We can look at other stuff if it becomes a problem.

Here are the monitors that I use in my studio and I love them. You’ll need to order 2 units – plus 2 XLR to 1/4 inch TRS cables for these to work with this setup.

Let’s use this as a starting point for your base setup and we can modify it accordingly.

Gearing up for new coaching sessions – new class outlines coming soon…

We’re in the process of creating some outlines for coaching sessions so that students know, before they sign up, exactly what they will learn and exactly what we do and don’t cover during our sessions.

We expect to come up with a 3 to 4 part process for the outlines as well as the sessions. For the first time ever we’re considering moving beyond our traditional methods (some might say a little old fashioned) into a more modern class structure.

The new outlines should be out soon. Otherwise classes are scheduled to begin the second week of November.

Any questions? Just contact the coach…

A voice over coach? No… Just an idiot…

If you ever pay a penny to this guy for voice over coaching you are just as big an idiot as he is… Remember people… The world is full of people without money who claim to know something – that you need to pay them to learn… Just walk away…

School’s out for the summer!!! Classes are closed until late 2011

From this date forward, (July 22, 2011) we will not be starting any new voice over training sessions with students until mid-November of 2011.

Students can reserve their place in line for evaluations during this time period – but we will not be performing any evaluations or coaching sessions beyond August 15, 2011 and will resume a normal schedule on November 14, 2011.

If you have any questions feel free to ask. Have a wonderful summer and hold on to your plans until we get back! That is if you can sit still that long..
