The Voice Over Coach :: Online Training Classes ::

The Best Online Voice Over Instruction Available… Anywhere. It may sound cocky but it’s true.

Real People, Real time… Thorough, High Resolution Training.

Online classes with The Voice Over Coach are private, live classes that take place over the internet via Skype. Students are connected to a live instructor the whole time during the classes, where they have the ability to address concerns in a real-time learning environment, one-on-one with Michael Minetree.

Each class is customized to each students’ individual needs, and are not cookie cutter classes.

Here are some promises we can make.

  • We see all of our students as individuals and treat them as such.
  • We are never too busy for you.
  • We are never rushing to get to the next client.
  • We are never short with you during the session.
  • You and your time are what is most important, not our precious schedule.
  • We will never try to sell you extra goodies or services just because you took a class.
  • The only thing you will be paying for and receiving is personal, one-on-one coaching.

Every person looking to learn more about voice over or studio design possesses different needs and should be taught in a way they can understand and comprehend, by a coach willing to teach them in a personal and customized style at a pace they can interpret. What they don’t need to do is sit down on the phone, or in a room full of people they don’t know while they’re bombarded with a parade of cliches and catchy, made up Tony Robbins-esque power phrases. The later is NOT how you learn the craft of voice over.

This is why we do not have form fit lessons, classes or seminars that we attempt to can and sell to people. It is also why we do not ply our wares in hotel conference rooms across the nation. It simply is not how you learn to perform this craft.

How do our online classes work?

Unless otherwise stated, all of our online classes are 90 minutes long.

At a students scheduled time, they connect with the studio via Skype and the class time begins. Depending on the class and whether or not the student is taking voice over lessons, topics are covered in a variety of ways. We use live examples, audio samples and other means to teach the classes. For most of the studio design classes topics are introduced until all subject matter is covered.

Students who have had a voice over evaluation will have a better understanding of how voice over lessons are conducted and how we are as coaches.

As a student in any one of the classes we offer,  you are free to ask about any and all concerns regarding the topic being addressed. These classes aren’t where you sit back and listen to us pontificate about voice over. They are fully interactive classes between you and the coach. Each topic is followed with a Q and A session until all topics are covered and completely understood. Below you will find a list of classes we currently offer online.

Please note:
Unless you have a pretty open schedule and don’t need to set a specific time, do not pay for any classes without first consulting the studio. Anyone with rigid scheduling concerns should give us a call before signing up. Once you have consulted the studio as to which class you are interested in taking and we have agreed on a scheduled time, you can continue to our Secure Online Transaction Gateway to pay for your class.

Also, please note there are day and evening class times – so we will be able to work it into your schedule.

Online Voice Over Training and Coaching ::

These voice over training classes lie at the very heart of our voice over talent development philosophy. We train voice over students to be complete voice over talent.

There is no shortage of evidence, that a half-trained voice over student has an exceptionally limited chance of success in this industry. Attending a seminar will not make you a voice over talent. Calling into a group tele-class will not make you a voice over talent. Buying a “Secrets of Success” CD will not make you a voice over talent. There are no secrets in voice over. Success in voice over comes to those who are trained completely, and put that training to work for them by applying themselves and the skills they have learned to the craft of voice over every day.

Class Format::

The Voice Over Coach supplies all commercial copy.
While we are connected via Skype, class participants record commercial reads in their studio and forward them to us for review. At the same time they receive real time feedback on their reads.
The recorded files are reviewed here at the studio while the student listens in. The student receives real-time direction and instruction on how to improve their reads and better interpret the copy. Live cold reading is performed during these sessions.
The process is repeated over the course of the students sessions with several pieces of copy until the copy is mastered, then we move on to a new pieces of copy.
These classes are, challenging, thorough, and highly detailed, yet are still a lot of fun and very instructional.

This page is a somewhat abbreviated explanation of what we do here at the studio. For more detailed information on our voice over training philosophy please visit the following link:

Hi! I live in PA and would be interested in your online package. How do you conduct the initial voice evaluation? From reading through your website, it seems if an individual does not have an appropriate voice, they will not be taken into a learning program. Thanks and look forward to hearing from you!

While it is true that I don’t take everyone as a student, I usually don’t base that decision solely on someones voice. There are many other issues that would keep me from taking someone on as a student. These can always be addressed in the evaluation session, which is free and which is available to everyone who wants one.

I am very interested in learning more about your in studio classes. I am located in western Fairfax and from what I read on your website it appears that you are located in Fairfax as well. What hours do you usually teach?

I tried to follow the link that’s labeled “The Voice Over Coach :: Voice Over Training Classes – In Studio and Online” but it is broken. I’d still like to read the page – could you fix the link?

Thanks!
Jen

We reserve our weekends for emergency sessions for existing clients – but frown a little bit on continuous weekend classes.
It really depends on the situation. For the most part we try to fit everything in during the week. Not everyone can take classes during the weekday – and we try to keep that in mind, but reality dictates that this business happens on the weekdays. If you can’t be available or lessons during the week the chances are you wouldn’t be available for the business either. It’s an unfortunate reality, though it may change some day – the lion’s share of the work is booked during the normal work week – during normal business hours.

I’ve been providing custom audio messaging on hold for clients since 1993. I have my own recording studio and used SAW editing for years. I recently upgraded to Adobe Audition and need help! While I can get the basics accomplished, I need to learn more advanced techniques. What would be the best way to proceed? Thanks, Eileen

Hello, after visiting website’s such as ***.com , ***.com, ***.com, ***.com, ***.com, ***.com, downloading many intro training MP3 from ***, ***, ***, ***, etc. I see the need for training. I want to be good at this, but at 47, I am just a beginner.

Now, can you honestly tell me that you are better than these websites I have listed here?

Also you make a statement “Though we do not teach voice over specific techniques in these classes ” does that mean you are all about the studio, or am I really going to get what I need from your training, such as all the techniques that are needed to be a voice actor? Lastly, since I am such a beginner, should I take other acting classes, and workshops before taking your class? I like the approach and honesty that your website conveys about voice acting, and look forward to your reply. Thank you.

I’d be happy to try to lend a hand. I remember SAW from the old radio days. Just tell me what you need and I’ll see if I can help.

It took me a while to digest this. It’s not every day that someone comes by the site and tries to post every name of every voice over anyone on the site. So it took me a while to want to reply.

“Now, can you honestly tell me that you are better than these websites I have listed here?”

What is this? Battle of the Web Sites? Am I, a physical person, better than an inanimate collection of 1’s and zeros brought together to create a visual communication medium? Yes. I can actually tell you that I am better than all of them. Better than what? I don’t know. But for the sake of my own self-esteem I can claim to be better than all web sites at something…
What kind of question is that?
There are people throughout this industry who specialize in many different aspects of it.
I’m sure there are things that many other people are much better at than am I. I am also quite positive that I am much better at some things than are they.

I have my own brand of specialized training which I have been perfecting for over a decade. I’m the only one who does what I do in this industry. That would make me, by default, the best at it. Hopefully that answers your question.

“Also you make a statement “Though we do not teach voice over specific techniques in these classes ” does that mean you are all about the studio, or am I really going to get what I need from your training, such as all the techniques that are needed to be a voice actor?”

That statement, as you call it, is under the heading of “Online Voice Over Training Classes – Speech and Voice Coaching” and does in fact state:
“Though we do not teach voice over specific techniques in these classes”

But is also goes on to say, in the same sentence which you so politely and conveniently cut short: “we do use many of the same methods for teaching new skills and working through linguistics and pronunciation issues. These are speech improvement classes that specifically target linguistics issues, urban or regional affects, accent elimination, articulation, annunciation and pronunciation, speech preparation and delivery coaching. These classes are for those who are not specifically interested in voice over – but have other speech issues that need specialized attention.”

This paragraph comes well after the description of Voice over Training Classes – so one would safely assume that it is a different type of class. Though you do point out the fact that it needs to be more clearly defined in order to limit confusion. So for that – thank you.

I don’t generally show people how to create jaw-dropping or squishing anything. That’s all for radio and imaging/promos. You want those effects – go to the people who create them and produce them. Radio imaging specialists and trailer producers are a good start. I don’t encourage anyone I work with to use any overwhelming effects on their voice.
