Here’s what they won’t post on the Yahoo Voice Over Group

I guess I’ve burned one too many bridges over at the Yahoo voice over group .

Apparently it’s ok if every voice over seminar in the world gets announced over there, but god forbid if I try to mention anything for free to the voice over community members who make up their membership. I’ve tried twice to post this over there, but the gatekeepers obviously have an axe to grind. Pretty much like the gatekeepers at other business directories, who for years have refused to list this site as a resource for voice over talent in their directory. Thanks guys. Keep up the good fight. Maybe one day I’ll quit and go away.

Here is the evil post they don’t want you to see:

Some of you who frequent other forums or are already on the studio mailing list have already heard most of this. But for those who haven’t…

A very few of you may know that I have teamed up with another VO and professional developer and begun development of a new online voice talent casting site. As things stand right now – we’ll still be in development for a while longer. While we’re in development, we’re accepting demo submissions for free talent profiles when the site launches.

We opened up a demo and talent profile submission process to select invitees this past week. It is just a simple upload process where you can register, fill out some basic voice over related form data – then upload your demo and head-shot or logo. When the new site is ready we’ll switch everybody’s profile over to it.

We are now stopping by to invite members of this board to come by and join up if they so wish, or take a look around and ask questions which we have tried to answer on the site, but will be happy to answer in the forum should you have them.

The database is already accepting members, and several very good talent have joined. Though we know there are many more we would like to see. Some of them are frequent posters on this board.

There is also free voice talent directory on our main site for members of the database to list their studio profile and a link to their site. We figured it would be a nice gesture for the people who took the time to upload their demos and profiles. Its free to anyone who joins the database, but only a few of the members have taken us up on it.

Part of the reason we’re not in a rush to open the site is that there is no need in “Internetland” for another half-thought-out voice over talent casting site that opens up looking for new business before they figured out what they would do with it once they found it.

We’re building a site for the members – then launching it..
It’s just a different concept.

To give you an idea of what the site will be like – and hopefully not be too cagey in the process…

1) It is going to be very talent-centric, where the focus remains on the members and their needs.

2) Many of the top complaints about the “other two” sites will be addressed in every aspect of it’s design – there is no need for a third site that everyone complains about.

3) The entire site will be transparent to everyone. No back-door policies. No mystery search algorithms. No punitive features that limit your auditioning capability. No road-blocks between the talent and their exposure on the site.

4) At least in the beginning and for an undetermined period of time – operational talent profiles that are free and relatively unrestricted in their features and usability.

Just copy and paste those into the first login window you come to. The rest is self explanatory.

Feel free to ask anything you want or need to know. We’ll be happy to answer your questions.

On a side note:
I know there are a few members of this board whose feathers I have ruffled in the past with posts that seemed overly promotional. This post is not another one of them, and this will be the only one of this nature you’re going to see. Hopefully we can put the past behind us and move on. This database project isn’t about me. It’s about the talent and their success.
