This is a timely article. Thank you for stopping to give insight in our industry, and allowing other trailblazers to do the same. My wife has been a VO artist for over 20 years. I have edited audio for the past 5.We are developing our in home studio and i am convinced the isdn route is the way to go.

Thank you so much for posting this! I have been training in the art of voice-over for only 12 weeks. This training includes classroom along with private sessions with a voice coach. I think the key is that i’m doing it because i love it, not just for money or recognition. I truly believe to be the best at anything, you must study and become an expert in your field. Keep your humility and that’s when you will begin to shine. Thank you again for this precious advice. I will remember it always.

I very much appreciate your words. From my perspective it reads like a script of my last six months (also my first) working on developing a VO career. Amazingly, I came to a conclusion of having been duped and decided that what I needed was VO training pretty much as you have it bulleted here. Thanx for the validation your words offer.

The $580 is for four weeks of lessons and is meant to allow students to split up the cost, rather than paying for 24 weeks all at once. Here is a quick breakdown of the current charges and how they work.

4 Weeks of One-on-One lessons – $580, every 4 weeks for as long as the student wishes to come and in most cases, a minimum of 24 weeks before we start looking at a demo reel.
This serves two purposes:

It allows the student to split the payment.
It provides a jump-off point for the student in the event they can’t continue with the sessions.

So the $200 is going to be deducted from the $580 fee – leaving you with $380 after the evaluation.

Hi Michael! I understand that the $200 will be put towards the lesson fees if a student chooses (and is allowed) to continue. You’ve mentioned above that the fee for the first set of lessons is $580 ($380 after the cost of the evaluation). How many lessons does this cover and how long is each lesson? Do subsequent sets of lessons have a different cost?

The evaluations cost $450 are pre-paid – usually take place during the day throughout the work week and are occasionally held during the evenings.
If after the evaluation you decide to take any lessons – $200 of the cost of the evaluation will be deducted from your lesson fees.
